On Oakland Airport, it’s great to see that it has potential for future International flights. Like San Jose, domestically it will always be the same with just a few flights to the East Coast, but mainly to the hubs in the center of the US, and then many west coast flights. Oakland, being just as close to downtown SF as SFO is or nearly as close, is a great alternative to the rush at SFO. I predict that Virgin Atlantic will add a third Bay Area flight there as British is doing in San Jose. Londoners know where Oakland is, and they are also aware of East Bay benefits in connecting to outer areas including Lake Tahoe without a traffic clogged bridge to cross. Oakland should plan on expanding it’s International Customs area by expanding north of the main terminal. Not a huge thing, but like what San Jose did. SFO is bursting, and it will be awhile before Terminal One with additional International gates will accomodate the predicted A380 flights especially. In addition, I can see West Jet with a Toronto nonstop out of Oakland as Air Canada builds a little in San Jose. The two airports are perfect relievers for SFO. Los Angeles is different in that LAX is the most central, and big carriers cannot go into Burbank, or John Wayne. San Diego acts more as a reliever to LAX with several international flights and one main runway. So, much aviation news here in the west. I love it, but it’s almost exhausting. Cheers !
