Thanks for the thermostat trick. I don’t know if I have the guts to try it, though. But it wouldn’t work in all hotels. Last year I got stuck in a really old motel in Reno. The room had no thermostat at all, just a cheery little card on the wall that announced the absence of thermostats in all rooms “to serve our guests better.” But if you got too hot, you could call the front desk and have an electric fan sent up. Since the windows didn’t open, most guests simply propped the front doors open with a chair. All the rooms faced a central courtyard, so my stay was rather like “Rear Window” without a murder (as far as I know).
