The global SkyTeam alliance – including Delta, Air France-KLM, China Eastern, China Southern, Korean Air and others – will soon open a new lounge at Beijing’s Capital International Airport.
The alliance’s sixth lounge worldwide, the Beijing facility is for first class and business class passengers and elite-plus members flying on any of the 12 SkyTeam carriers that serve the Chinese capital.
This is especially good news considering Beijing’s notorious reputation for delays.
The Beijing lounge in Terminal 2 can accommodate 160 persons in its 8,600 square feet. It features a buffet service with hot and cold Chinese and international cuisine; bar service; big, curved windows with airport views; free Wi-Fi; a business area with computers; power outlets throughout; showers with towels and toiletries; a TV room; relaxation area; and VIP room.
The other lounges are in Dubai, Hong Kong, Istanbul, London Heathrow and Sydney. The alliance said its 12 member airlines at Beijing operate more than 3,700 flights a week there.

And yet another update. As of 2 April, still no joy.
Was told, maybe next week. The standard Chinese answer that translates to “Who knows?”
Since my travels to China will be significantly reduced, perhaps someone else could check it out.
Oh no! Thanks for letting us know. We’ve updated the post.
Well, it’s December 3 and no joy.
When I checked in, I was expecting a pass to the new club. Imagine my disappointment when I got the standard BGS lounge pass.
I asked the agent about the new SkyTeam lounge, and she said: “It is built, but it is not open yet. Maybe next year.” Which is Chinese for later, maybe. I asked at the gate, and they said January 2017, but did not know a date.
I’ve been able to enjoy the London Heathrow Skyteam lounge a number of times and I think that one is GREAT. It’s in Terminal #4. Nice selection of hot (and cold) food choices, lots of beverages, and other amenties. (I can’t recall if it has showers because I was never in need of that particular service when visiting.) The bad news (for Delta fliers) is that we’ll soon lose the access, because Delta plans to move all flights over to LHR Terminal #3, which is NOT nearby, because they can better join forces with their Virgin Atlantic partner operations. In any event, if the London Skyteam lounge is any indicator, the Beijing one should be fine as well. IMHO.
sure thing! Check out our reader report guidelines here: https://travelskills.com/travelskills-reader-report-guidelines/
I’ll believe it when I see it on 3 Dec when I am returning to the US. If you want, I can write up a short review.
