How about a lie-flat ride in a KLM 787 Dreamliner? (Photo: KLM)
How does springtime in Paris sound? A lark in lovely London? Or anywhere else in Europe in lie-flat business class?
Today SkyTeam airlines Delta, Air France and KLM launched a flash sale for business class tickets on many US-to-Europe routes. As we publish this post, we are seeing similar fares on American, United and other Oneworld and Star Alliance carriers, so we have a bit of a fare war on our hands…)
But you need to act fast because seats will sell out fast and you only have until February 28 to get the deal.
Roundtrip fares are in the $2,500 range from the east coast; about $3,000 from midwest cities and around $3,200 from the west coast. These fares represent a nice discount on business class, which usually runs in the $4,000 to $7,000 range. (Scroll down for sample fares on KLM and Air France)
Details:
>Book by February 28
>Travel from April 4 – April 27 (However, we see sale fares on many routes stretching into early June, so check)
>Book directly at Delta, Air France and KLM. (Check business fares on other carriers for April flights because we don’t see fare sale pages posted yet)
A press release states, “Air France’s Business Class cabins feature a fully flat bed, aisle access for every passenger, and a multipurpose area complete with a desk, restaurant table and bed. KLM’s World Business Class cabins also feature a reclinable bed, in addition to a personal entertainment system and comfort kits designed by Dutch designer Jan Taminiau.”

Obviously Business Class is better, but you pay a lot more for it. So the real choice is between flying Business or flying in Coach and having a lot more money to spend on hotels, meals etc.
6 hours or so is much more bearable in the back and I’d personally want to spend less. However if it was 10 hours, then I’d pony up. In fact 6 hours may not be enough time to use all the facilities i.e. eat, drink, sleep, read, watch movies . .
Oops, I miscalculated the difference between miles and nautical miles. Thanks for the correction, yes the 767-300ER can fly that route (but barely, it’s 90% of the plane’s range, which is really tight when you consider weather and alternate airports). Looks like KLM is currently using a 777 on that route, which has much more range.
I fly that route frequently and can tell you many times it was a 767-300ER (extended range)
I do ATL to ICN Five or six times a year and make connections beyond. 6.5 hours is nothing.
Flying coach for 6.5 hours is not fun. Flying business for 6.5 hours is fun. Like, it’s actually fun. People catering to you, comfy seat, lots of tv channels. If you can afford it, there’s no reason anyone would chose to fly coach.
I get tickled at people who fret at a coach seat from the east coast to London or Paris. It’s only 6.5 hours. A lie flat bed???? East coast to Asia yes.
Not a 767. 767 is not capable of flying that far
I have flown KLM World Business Class a few times from Amsterdam to São Paulo and vice versa in a Boeing 767 and it had the upgraded business class seats which are fully flat and very comfortable. Also with a good entertainment system
