TravelSkills editor Chris McGinnis in Manhattan prepping for a speech in NYC
TravelSkills has moved over to a new platform and is now part of the SFGate/Hearst publishing empire. (See it here)
While this is a huge step for TravelSkills, readers should not notice much change. You’ll still get your TravelSkills email bulletins from us (although the cadence may vary). Sign up here if you don’t subscribe already.
And when you click on the links in posts or emails like this one, you’ll now be taken to a page on SFGate.com.
The blog archive– where you can always go to read our latest posts will now live here: TravelSkills with Chris McGinnis on SFGate Please save that URL in your browser menu or bookmarks for easy access to our content.
Our social feeds will remain the same– follow us if you don’t already to get the news as it happens:
Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Flipboard RSS Instagram
Our old content will remain here on TravelSkills.com, so you can always return and search for stories you’d like to read or reference again.
As with any big change, we’ll hit a few bumps along the way and we expect to get plenty of feedback. Please stick with us during the transition! That’s how we will learn to make TravelSkills even better and more relevant in the coming year. We welcome your comments and feedback– either here on the post, or directly to me chris@travelskills.com.
With a new platform comes a MUCH larger audience- content will be distributed throughout Hearst outlets, so you’ll notice that comments will be a mixed bag of the usual excellent, helpful and on-point stuff combined with a few crazies– ignore them, please…or enjoy them 😉
We’re pleased to have you along for the ride!
Sincerely,
Chris McGinnis, Founder, TravelSkills

Your page doesn’t load right for me on Chrome 63 on MacOs 10.13.3. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/bb5903482ce815afdbbc871aa4438e25d05d2bf1e07a7f59137e58d7070aded0.png
Not sure I understand your comment about a “subscribed feed.” Are you signed up for our TravelSkills daily or weekly newsletter? I can either add or remove you from that list so let me know.
Here’s how to disable video autoplay in Safari: https://support.apple.com/guide/safari/stop-autoplay-videos-ibrw29c6ecf8/mac. This will disable video autoplay on SFGate and other sites
Several readers have complained about the autoplaying of videos on SFGate. Did you know that you can disable autoplay? Instructions on how to do this differ by browser, so just google: “How to disable autoplay” and your browser name. Here’s an interesting post about how latest version of Chrome is disabling autoplay https://www.theverge.com/2017/9/15/16311310/google-chrome-autoplay-videos-january
I am with the previous poster. I have enjoyed your site as a blog but will not be receiving it as a subscribed “feed.” Sorry to see you make this move, Chris. Goodbye.
SFGate has turned into TMZ. Sorry to see Travelskills aligning itself with that site.
No paywall for SFGate.com
SFGATE operates behind a paywall. Will your location remain fully available?

VERY proud of our hometown boy! Well done, Chris, look forward to experiencing it all.
I pray TravelSkills stays independent and will have as much focus on Atlanta and Delta as has been the case from the beginning. I fear that the emphasis will move to SFO, United and American
Congrats on the move. As an avid SFGate reader, although from afar in Mexico, I look forward to your continuing posts.
