New rental facility at Charlotte. Rental car operations at North Carolina’s Charlotte Douglas International Airport have moved to a newly opened consolidated facility in the airport’s new hourly parking deck.
The new rental facility is a short walk from the terminal, eliminating the need for the rental car shuttles previously used.
Next year, the airport plans to begin building a new concourse on the site of the old rental car lots.
New central or “consolidated” rental car centers are all the rage these days…there’s even a wikipedia page about the concept!
But are they better than what we had before? I’ve heard complaints about long distances from terminals, infrequent train or shuttle service, long walks, and of course, higher prices and sneaky fees to pay for the facilities. On the upside, these central facilities can be cleaner and safer and protected from the elements.
